An application was made on behalf of our client for an application to replace a farm building with a workshop and storage.

This application was for a new building sited on the footprints of the existing building. The building is better designed, and constructed of good quality materials and will serve to conserve and enhance the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where it is located.

The proposed workshop is located close to a road and is currently used for storage and as a small workshop. The existing arrangement is not practical as the small tractor has to be removed from the building in order to use the workshop.

The proposed scheme will significantly improve the appearance of the site. The materials used reflect the local vernacular and provide a direct reference to the previous agricultural use of the site. In this respect, the proposal will not appear overly domestic and would respect the setting and the character of the area.

Our team was able to demonstrate that the proposed replacement of former agricultural building on-site accords with the relevant policies of the Development Plan for Tunbridge Wells Borough.

The council approved the application.
